Shandong is situated in the eastern coastal region and in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. Since it is located in the east of the Taihang Mountains, so it got its name: Shandong, which literallymeans "east of the mountains" in Chinese.

Shandong is hot and rainy in summer, while it is cold and dry in winter due to monsoonal influences.
